For 20 years, Eva, and her now late husband Alan, owned and operated Baskin in the Sun, a scuba diving facility in the Dominican Republic, Turks and Caicos, Haiti and then Tortola.
When my husband died of cancer in 1999, leaving me with many debts and a mortgage, I realized I would need to have additional income. It took me 8 months to refurbish the Villa and reorganize the rooms for rental. I moved under the main house into a studio apartment with a separate office, and separate entrance. I decided on short term, vacation rentals, so I would not lose access to the main house and could better maintain it. My family can come visit when it is available. I also enjoy meeting people, who often become lifelong friends. Repeat clients are like a homecoming!
My first reservation was in August of 2002. Since then, I have been able to pay off most of the debt, and have made several good friends. Privacy is assured, as we do not see or hear one another. But I am accessible as concierge for whatever questions may arise.
Hurricane Irma in September of 2017 did a lot of damage to parts of the house, but it has all been rebuilt better and stronger than before! So it is updated and renewed, with diamond bright pool surfaces, a new roof, new hot tub, and new furniture.
The view is still amazing, the garden matured.
